Tea and Coffee Trade Journal
Solar Roast Coffee is featured in this month's Tea and Coffee Trade Journal! We made the cover of the magazine!

This is a very exciting piece of news for me, as it means the INDUSTRY is taking notice!
With focus, entrepreneurship, creativity, and a lot of work, people will start to notice big things done by the little guys.
Cheers.

Progress on the Helios 4 Solar Roasting Plant

While things are clipping right along at our shop in Pueblo, Dave is busily working away on the new mega-solar coffee roaster, the Helios 4. When it's finished, this monster machine will produce literally tons of coffee... all organic, fully solar roasted using only concentrated solar energy! The machine swivels on a pair of round tracks, and uses a large cable winch system to elevate the mirror array into alignment with the sun. The coffee is roasted with the hot air produced in a separate roasting building (not pictured.)
Stay tuned for more progress!

Telluride Film Festival
Solar Roast Coffee was invited to and attended the World Famous Telluride Film Festival!
We took our handy little coffee box, and brewed coffee and lattes on the spot in front of the largest theater! Sara and I served the freshest solar roasted coffee sun-up to sun-down for three days! It was tiring, but exciting.
Plus it marked the first time that Solar Roast Coffee had two retail locations open at the same time!

In order to move our process into the great in-doors, we enclosed our Helios 3 solar coffee roaster in a 24 foot geodesic greenouse dome. The transparent plastic admits enough direct sunlight for the soar concentrator to roast our coffee, all in the comforts (sometimes overly warm comforts) of the dome.
Mike and Dave stand inside, the roaster heating up for our first test!
Mike, Dave, and Nathan, all posing with the solar coffee roaster. It was quite the task to move to Colorado and set it all up before the shop opened! Yikes! As it stands, the entire system is entirely off grid, with out so much as an extension cord tying us to a grid of any kind. (We will need to plug in an AC unit this summer, but so far, so good.)
The parents came out so visit for opening day, shown here visiting while coffee is being roasted for the opening.
Behold... the glory of the Helios 3 Solar Coffee Roaster! (just don't look at the hot-spot too long, or you'll go blind...)
Dave finished the dome with a nice metal door. Note the inset window detailing, which echoes the overall formal structure of the volume. Note also how this interplay serves to contextualize the formal elements of industry and personal space to achieve a gestalt, embodying the delightful industrius -but friendly- spirit that is Solar Roast Coffee... Very high-concept. Oh yes. Only the best when it comes to roasting this stuff!
Our First Coffee Shop, Open for Business!
Dave stands in the morning sunlight outside Solar Roast Coffee, in Pueblo Colorado. The coffee shop, our first so far, serves
a full variety of coffee and espresso drinks, using only the very best blends of our Solar Roast Coffee. We also serve bagels & pastries for breakfast and soups and sandwiches for lunch.
Click below to see close-ups of our newly re-finished interrior! We did all the painting and woodworking oursleves. Dad's old Hi-Fi is off in the corner playing something jazzy;-> Stop in for a cup and enjoy the beautiful town of Pueblo!

Quite A Season!
Solar Roast Coffee has officially completed its third season under the sun.
With the Oregon rains setting in, shipping of orders has come to a close. We just want to thank you for your interest (and love of excellent coffee) and plan to re-open in the first few months of 2007. This new year holds the promise of a sunnier location, our very first Solar Roast Cafe, and a newer, more powerful solar coffee roaster that will run year-round.
We're just hoping we have enough Solaris Blend to personally get us through the winter rains... ;-> Stay tuned, and may your days be sunny!

Computer failure
Greetings!
The main Solar Roast Coffee computer crashed a couple days ago. (October 27th - October 30th) What this means is that I lost the last couple of orders, as well as e-mails from customers. So, if you have been waiting for a reply, please resend you message. Everything is sorted out now...it has been a bit painful though!
No worries though, the coffee is still on!
Cheers,
Mike

Solar Roast Cafe coming soon!
Hello all!
Great news, over here at Solar Roast we have been busy on our latest project. The first Solar Roast Cafe! We have been busy creating proposals, and working with banks. We have been scouting the Western States for a perfect location. The spot still illudes us, but we are go for launch! Our focus has gone from Nevada, to California, then to Arizona...right now we are researching Eastern Colorado. That area appears to have ideal sun, as well as rivers!
Once we know for sure, I will post a comment on here!
Cheers,
Mike

SolWest Fair
I just got back from the SolWest Fair in John Day, Oregon, and it was fantastic. We had the new and improved H3 set up. We were serving hot coffee to the public, and selling roasted coffee to the masses. Our Bolivia Organic was met with rave reviews, and our mugs held the liquid perfectly. All in all, a great experience!
Now, I have a few weeks of rest before the SolFest Fair in Hopland, California!
Cheers!

da Vinci Success!

We had a great time at the da Vinci Days fest in Corvallis, Oregon. It marked the initiation of Helios 3, our newest coffee roaster. The festival had several high lights! My fondest memory, was of me sitting on the top of my ladder, drinking a cup of coffee, and watching a croud grow around us. Everyone came by and said hello, and stared in awe at the roaster!
"Is it really SOLAR?" "That is the coolest thing I have ever seen!"
